GATTI & TRIANGIA – a mystery to be solved!

After I found the fourth Wall Madonna painted by Francesco Ambrosione I decided to visit the upper villages of Mangialdo, Barboni and Ruvari  – all frazioni of Castione Andevenno – and all very old. But I had to drive through Triangia to get to them.  Triangia is a frazione of Sondrio and because I stoppedContinue reading “GATTI & TRIANGIA – a mystery to be solved!”

GUASTO – Frazione of Castione Adevenno – the fourth Wall Madonna by Francesco Ambrosione!

After searching the frazioni Castione Adevenno for five days I found the fourth fresco painted by Franceso Ambrosione who painted in the Valtellina and Valsassina in the mid to late 17th-century and early 18th-century. Four Wall Madonna’s have been identified and attributed to him – 2 in Caiolo Alto, 1 in Fusine, and this oneContinue reading “GUASTO – Frazione of Castione Adevenno – the fourth Wall Madonna by Francesco Ambrosione!”

VENDOLO – frazione of Castione Adevenno!

VENDOLO – frazione of Castione Adevenno! I am still searching for the fourth fresco of Francesco Ambrosione. I have written to the Lombardian Cultural Center about its location and today they forwarded my inquiry to the researcher who posted the link about his work. I have a source that claims that his fresco is inContinue reading “VENDOLO – frazione of Castione Adevenno!”

BERGAMO – Chiesa di San Pancrazio

BERGAMO – Chiesa di San Pancrazio, 9th-century – the beautiful ogival arch above the entry door. Although the church is dated to 888 this arch is dated to the 14th-century. I LOVE this!! The church is small, non-descript and not ornate save for this ‘portone’ and, hence, easily missed since it does not face theContinue reading “BERGAMO – Chiesa di San Pancrazio”

GATTI – Frazione of Castione Andevenno – February 17, 2021

GATTI – frazione of Castione Adevenno – Although I, still, have not found the fourth fresco of Ambrosione, I did find a mostly un-restored early 18th-century Wall Madonna in the small frazione of Gatti. And where I found her is more evidence that I am not likely to find the final Ambrosione. I say mostlyContinue reading “GATTI – Frazione of Castione Andevenno – February 17, 2021”

UPDATE ON MY SEARCH FOR THE FRESCOES OF FRANCESCO AMBROSIONE

UPDATE on my search for the frescoes of Francesco Ambrosione! In Academia this would be called a ‘Research Report’ so if you are interested – read on. I was pretty long-winded here – sorry. I have been searching for the fourth 17th-century fresco of Francesco Ambrosione that a source I found claimed was located inContinue reading “UPDATE ON MY SEARCH FOR THE FRESCOES OF FRANCESCO AMBROSIONE”
